Aperture Series: Poppies and Pots (Sony A7R)

The Olympus Zuiko Auto-S 50mm f/1.2 is a decades-old design. So a question arises: does the 36-megapixel sensor of the Sony A7R interact well?

The Olympus Zuiko 50/1.2 used here was converted to Nikon mount and used with a lens adapter.

The 36-megapixel Sony A7R offers an outstanding sensor quality to evaluate any lens, provided that its damaging shutter vibration is avoided. That was achieved for the series on this page by using suitably long shutter speeds (including a polarizer acting as an ND filter).

  • Real world examples with insights found nowhere else. Make sharper images just by understanding lens behavior you won’t read about elsewhere.
  • Aperture series from wide open through stopped down, showing the full range of lens performance and bokeh.
  • Optical quality analysis of field curvature, focus shift, sharpness, flare, distortion, and performance in the field.
