Leica SL3: OWC Atlas Ultra CFExpress Type B Works Flawlessly and Stunningly Fast
The OWC Atlas Ultra 1TB card has performed flawlessly in the Leica SL3. As did all OWC Atlas Ultra and OWC Atlas Pro cards in the Fujifilm GFX100 II, and Hasselblad X2D and Nikon Z8 and Sony A7R V*.
These are cards that always run at full factory-fresh speed via OWC Innergize.
I was astounded when I drag-copied a 7GB shoot off the card to my internal SSD*: so fast there wasn’t even enough time for the Finder to show a progress bar. Drag and drop... and it’s done. So fast I thought had messed up. At ~3200 MB/sec, Atlas Ultra CFExpress Type B is faster than most SSDs in most computers.
Awesome speed and awesome capacity. No camera can come close to utilizing the full speed of OWC Atlas Ultra CFExpress Type B, speed right up there with fastest USB4 SSDs.
* Sony A7R V uses CFExpress Type A plus SDXC. Sony is a few years ahead in the adoption cycle for CF Type A.
** Using the OWC Atlas CFexpress 4.0 Type B Card Reader, a must-have for full speed with any card.
Wide compatibility, be it CFExpress Type B or SDXC
Cameras that take CFExpress Type B: Leica SL3, Fujifilm GFX 100 II, Hasselblad X2D, Nikon Z8/Z9 (not a complete list). The 2TB card is the smart move, given the modest price difference. Add a 1TB SDXC card for the backup slot.
These ultra-fast cards also makes a terrific wallet backup. Carry all your really critical stuff (encrypted) right in your wallet. I do! I suppose they’d also be perfect for a cold storage Bitcoin wallet.
