Earthquake Swarms

re: earthquake

Last night around 23:09 we had two sharp shocks, I slept through them.

Earthquake map

Just now at around 16:55, we had a small shock just noticeable, then another sharp snap (magnitude 2.9). Epicenter of them very close to where my Alpine Creek photos are taken (it’s actually Corte Madera Creek); that creek follows the fault line. And about 1 mile from my home, west of Palo Alto, CA.

Thse little shocks are oddballs to my experience; sharp like a gunshot, a short snap and that’s it. Tigger says hardly worth cocking an ear.

There are lots and lots of small tremors all the time, but in my 40 years of living in this area, I don’t recall shocks like this.

And I’m not worried about them, having a wood frame house with bolted-on foundation and plywood sheathing on roof, but a really strong one I suppose could damage the house. Still, I’ll take 'em over hurricanes any day.
