Leica M Typ 240: Support for the Higher Resolution VF-4 EVF Not Feasible
In EVF Compatibility: Does the Olympus VF4 Work on the Leica M Typ 240?, I wondered if Leica might be able to improve the Leica M Typ 240 shooting experience by supporting the VF-4, a much higher resolution EVF than the relatively low-res VF-2.
I’ve learned that the Leica M Typ 240 will not be able to support the Olympus VF-4 EVF, the reason being that the CPU in the camera cannot reliably process the increased data bandwidth.
This is a serious disappointment for me; the quality difference is pronounced when one sees (for example) the Sony RX1R side by side with the M240 + VF-2. It is not just pleasure of a better view (itself a valued feature), but the VF-2 actively degrades the ability to discriminate focus.
