Fuji X100: Yosemite Controlled Burn
The Fuji X100 (see prior comments on Oct 8) makes a very handy camera for bicycling. It fits in a jersey pocket, and has far higher image quality than anything else in its form factor (size and weight considered especially for biking). See my review of the Fuji X100 in DAP.
I had to shoot quickly, because the fire crew told me to move on— hard to get a shot like this without someone in authority deciding you’re a problem. It’s a 40 megapixel panoramic image taken from 7 frames shot handheld, then stitched in Photoshop using Auto Align Layers and Auto Blend Layers.
Burns like this are one reason it can be difficult to get clear air in the high country of Yosemite for weeks at a time; all that smoke reallly makes a mess of things.
I highly recommend the Fuji X100, bookmark my other gear page for in-stock status at B&H photo (red means out of stock). I update those gear pages at least once a day.
