Leica 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH Reviewed With Examples

To my Guide and Review of the Leica M9 in DAP I’ve added an examples page chosen for their instructive possibilities, and an overview and discussion page.

Coming soon is a revealing comparison with the Leica 50mm f/0.95 Noctilux-M ASPH, for those wondering which lens to obtain, not that either one is cheap or even available easily.

At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I’ll rate the 50 Summilux as the finest 50mm lens that I have ever tested, and I’ve tested over a dozen 50mm designs from Canon, Nikon, Sigma and Zeiss. The Leica 50 Summilux-M just pulls together such strengths that I had to look hard to find one (small) fault.

I rented the Leica 50mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH from LensRentals.com, but I liked it so much that I’m now on the year-long waiting list to purchase one (in part why I’m selling some of my photo gear).

See my handy list of Leica gear at B&H Photo. Most Leica gear is forever out of stock, as Leica cannot meet demand, but the one lens which is in stock and is also outstanding is the 24mm f/3.8 Elmar-M ASPH.
