Nikon AF-S 105mm f/2.8G Macro Lens

Reader Ed F writes:

I read with interest your positive comments about the Nikon 60mm, I was
wondering if you have similar comments or results with the 105mm as a macro.
My field work with the 105mm has had very good results, especially when used with
live view on the D3s. I also wanted to comment on your new website format. It is very crisp, clean and easy to navigate.

DIGLLOYD: the Nikon AF-S 105mm f/2.8G macro offers outstanding image quality as a macro lens: at closer range. At longer distances near infinity focus, I have been disappointed with the results compared to the Zeiss 100mm f/2 Makro-Planar, which is excellent at all distances. Still, the Nikon is autofocus, and that is very useful in some circumstances. I don’t rank the 105mm f/2.8G as highly as the Nikon 60mm f/2.8G, but the 105 is an excellent lens at medium to close distances.

See examples in my review of the Nikon D3s using the Nikon 105mm f/2.8G in ISO 3200 in the Forest.
