Zeiss ZF.2 35mm f/1.4 Distagon Back To Factory

On April 12 I reported a concern with my evaluation sample of the Zeiss ZF.2 35mm f/1.4 Distagon, details in my analysis of the Zeiss ZF.2 35mm f/1.4 Distagon in terms of a left/right sharpness symmetry issue.

Zeiss has asked me to return the ZF.2 35/1.4 Distagon so the factory can examine it. When and if I receive information on the findings, I’ll update my report. I want to stress that what I observed is sample-specific, and nothing to do with the optical design or build quality.

I do not know when I’ll have another Zeiss ZF.2 35/1.4 Distagon for testing, but I will resume testing and samples when one arrives.

Due to the high precision required of today’s cameras and lenses, it’s also possible that the Nikon D3x had some role in what I observed. See Making Sharp Images for more on that topic and numerous other areas.
