New Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH for Leica M8/M9/M

Just arrived courtesy of B&H Photo is the new Leica 35mm f/1.4 Summilux-M ASPH, a lens Leica is apparently very proud of, saying it has “performance characteristics without precedent in the field of compact 35 mm lenses”.

I analyze the MTF (modulation transfer function) of the prior model against the new one on this page in Making Sharp Images.

The newly revised lens is a clear step up from the old one for digital capture, offering significantly better resolution of fine details in the mid zones to the edges, an important consideration for high resolution digital capture.
