Nikon lenses: 85mm f/1.4G

One reader took me to task with my comments about the new Nikon 85/1.4G, but I have nothing to recant— I suspect that the 85/1.4G will show itself to be a top performer.

Yesterday, I spoke with one prominent New York pro who is actively using the new 85/1.4G. In a nutshell, he feels the new lens is outstanding.

I think, perhaps, that those wont to dismiss new but more expensive designs should not insert price into an objective look, since everyone’s needs and budget vary. And to remember that improving upon excellent designs (the 85/1.4D) is a matter of considerable effort for modest improvements, not all of which are optical.
