Prints on canvas

Mike Chambers* of Picture Element discusses the way he makes his canvas prints, discussed in yesterday’s entry:

“My approach is based on my own color profiles and coating formulas. I have tried dozens of canvases and spent hundreds of hours on trial and error tests to achieve optimal results. The method for coating is the real trick to the look and the most difficult part to accomplish. Much time was spent exploring different techniques because conventional solutions did not yield the look that I was after. My solution involves a water resistant canvas and archival pigment ink combination. The result is a beautiful low-specular-glare canvas print with a superior Dmax, color range, and finish.”—Mike Chambers, Picture Element.

Whatever the process, the results are terrific.
